That's a fantastic looking model and it's inspired me to build my own. Does anyone know where I can found out the dimensions of the average waltzer so I can scale mine right or can anyone simply tell me?? Cheers, Rick. richardopensevale@yahoo.co.uk

GREG PRYCE 1/12th WALTZER

Great pics, i am almost ready to begin to build my model, where can i get aluminium channel from for the sleepers and maybe even the rafters, also how do i form the bend as at the front of your chassis base? i have looked at plastruct, is it anygood, to me it seems soft and too flexible to use for this type of model building? Looking forward to seeing the final pics

Hi Gary, What scale are you going to build to?,most people use 1/24th, myself I like to work in 1/16th,which does mean building-up/ pulling-down each Show! I only ask this because if you work in the smaller scale you really want to find the correct size aluminium chanelling. I managed to find the correct size in B&Q,it's quite expensive, around £6-£7 for a 1m length. The front chassis-member on my model is not really needed but to bend it,I carefully made trianglular shape cuts in the rear side of the metal, then bent it back to close the gaps. I did use the same chanelling on the side of the Main Chassis as well. The smaller chanelling I used for the wooden Sleepers to slot into was also found in B&Q. My Lighting Swifts are also made up from Plastistruct as you mention. This is very good material for making all kinds of things. Hope this is of help to you, best of luck with the Model, look forward to seeing pictures of your progress. They do take time but they are well worth it! If you need to know anything else, just let me know. All the best, Greg

[#8764329] 2008-08-14 20:15:22 Left by (#0) Reply
Not at all, so far it's taken about 9 years, but there has been big gaps of not even getting it out of the cases. The problem is finding time for all my other projects and interests as well.

You never know what you are capable of unless you try, give it a go, take your time, even if it's a static model to start off with, at least it will give you an idea, all the best, Greg
