Sold as "new" because it's never been finished. This, also, has been lying about for a long time. It was being built by an engineer in the 70's, but was left alone when the man discovered how lucrative toy fairs can be. He went off selling and making money instead of building stuff like this for nothing. What has been done has been well done. He made some short cuts, but all for the better, it seems. The inner sleepers and frames that carry the Lego wheels were cut from alloy instead of wood, and the outer sleepers under the floor don't exist. The floor is made from one piece of material, as are the plates, which have been scribed to represent 42 ndividual ones. On the outer edge and in line with where the long sleepers would have been are "cups" made from square brass tubing to sit the uprights in. The gearing was really dirty and I stripped it, cleaned it up and greased it. The machine spins okay, and the motor is sound, but I happen to have another of the same size which will be included. There are a lot of painted parts as can be seen, and still some to do. There's a lot of work gone into cutting out the handrails and upper gates, or rounding boards. The top frame is made properly inasmuch as all of the rafters have properly shaped brackets or hooks on them, made from thin sheet brass. A lot of people would use round steel bar cut to length with a right angle bend made. There's a box with Meccano pulleys gears and axles, a lot of spare Lego wheels, match boxes with more rafter bracketry, a couple of Mamod driving belts and the ready formed hand rails or safety bars for the cars. An hours work would probably be enough to couple the cars up, etc and give the machine a trial spin. So far, I haven't had the space or the time. This, like my other stuff, is going due to health issues. There's nothing I'd like better than to finish them, but it's not going to happen. I didn't realize how much stuff I had up here in my double loft until now, when I'm faced with getting shot of most of it. Not just this stuff but guitars, model boats, model railway stuff, books, Harley parts, plastic kits.... Where did they all come from?? I don't do Paypal.
